Bonneville Power Substation Construction

For the Knight Road Power Substation construction, K&E has been responsible for the earthwork, erosion control and the drainage system installation. The mass excavation effort involved blasting and processing material generated onsite for the structural fill and the aggregate surfaces.

From blasting requiring two excavators and hammers to dealing with snow and freezing temperatures, this project kept our crew on their toes.

Challenges

Difficult winter weather conditions—rain, snow and freezing temperatures—were a challenge. Also changing site conditions that did not match the geo-technical report proved to be a challenge.

Outcome

Fortunately, we were able to maintain haul routes and remove snow by grading. We were also able to adjust our tactics when blasting to keep project moving forward. For instance, the material blasted large and required two excavators with hammers to break it down before processing.

"K&E’s  product was installed exactly to the plans and specifications and their flexibility in executing the overall project schedule was outstanding. This project required significant coordination with the electrical and H-pile installation contractors, K&E’s support in this area  contributed heavily to the success of the project."
